What is Tamoxifen (Nolvadex)?
Tamoxifen is a medication originally developed to treat breast cancer. It works by blocking oestrogen receptors in certain tissues. In fitness circles, it's widely used after a steroid cycle to help the body recover its natural hormone production.

How Does It Work?
Tamoxifen is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator, or SERM. It attaches to oestrogen receptors in breast tissue and blocks oestrogen from activating them. At the same time, it stimulates the pituitary gland to release more LH and FSH, which signals the testes to produce testosterone again.
What It's Used For
- Post cycle therapy (PCT) to restore natural testosterone levels
- Reducing the risk of gynaecomastia (breast tissue development in men)
- Medical treatment and prevention of oestrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer
What to Expect
During PCT, most users notice a gradual return of natural testosterone levels over a few weeks. Energy, mood, and libido typically begin to recover as hormone levels stabilise. Tamoxifen won't produce any direct physical changes in terms of muscle or fat — it's purely a recovery and protection tool.
Possible Side Effects
- Hot flushes and mood swings
- Nausea or mild stomach upset
- Temporary decrease in sex drive during use
Cycle & Dosage Notes
A standard PCT with Tamoxifen typically runs for 4–6 weeks, starting a couple of weeks after the last steroid injection or immediately after oral steroid use ends. A common approach is 40mg per day for the first two weeks, then dropping to 20mg for the remaining weeks. It's often combined with Clomid for a more thorough recovery, particularly after heavier cycles.
Storage
