Ritalin is the brand name for methylphenidate hydrochloride, a central nervous system stimulant first approved in the 1950s. It is prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It works by blocking the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain, increasing their availability in key circuits involved in attention and executive function.

Methylphenidate blocks the dopamine and norepinephrine transporters, reducing reuptake of these neurotransmitters from the synapse. This raises their concentration in key brain regions, particularly the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for attention, working memory, and impulse control. The result is improved cognitive focus and reduced distractibility.
Effects begin within 30–45 minutes and last approximately 3–5 hours per dose. At therapeutic doses, most people notice significantly improved concentration, reduced mental fatigue, and better ability to complete tasks. It does not cause euphoria at standard doses.
Methylphenidate is typically taken 2–3 times daily, with the last dose no later than early afternoon to avoid sleep disruption. Treatment is usually continuous under medical supervision. Drug holidays on weekends or school holidays are sometimes used to give the body a break. This is not an anabolic compound and has no PCT requirements.
Keep at room temperature (15–25°C), away from light and moisture. Leave in the original packaging.
