What is HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)?
HCG is a hormone that occurs naturally in the body. It was originally developed to treat fertility issues in both men and women. In fitness circles, it's widely used to support natural testosterone recovery after a steroid cycle.
Quick Facts
| Active Ingredient | Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) |
| Half-life | ~36 hours |
| Form | Injectable (subcutaneous or intramuscular) |
| Dose (Men) | 500–2500 IU, 2–3 times per week |
| Dose (Women) | Used medically; not recommended for performance use |
| Detection Time | Up to 5–6 days |
| Anabolic Rating | N/A |
| Androgenic Rating | N/A |
How Does It Work?
HCG mimics luteinizing hormone (LH), which is the signal your body uses to tell the testes to produce testosterone. When anabolic steroids suppress natural hormone production, the testes can shrink and go quiet. HCG steps in and keeps them active by sending that same LH-like signal.
What It's Used For
- Preventing testicular atrophy during a steroid cycle
- Restarting natural testosterone production before or during PCT
- Treating medically diagnosed hypogonadism and male infertility
What to Expect
Most users notice improved testicular fullness and a faster return of natural testosterone after a cycle. It won't build muscle directly, but it makes recovery much smoother and quicker. Energy, mood, and libido tend to bounce back faster when HCG is used properly.
Possible Side Effects
- Water retention or bloating
- Increased oestrogen levels, which can cause gynecomastia if unmanaged
- Mood swings or emotional sensitivity
Cycle & Dosage Notes
HCG is commonly run at 500 IU twice a week during a cycle to keep the testes functioning. For post-cycle use, a short blast of 1000–2500 IU every other day for 10–14 days before starting a SERM-based PCT is a popular approach. Avoid running HCG for too long, as the testes can become desensitised to it.
Storage
